PACE is a program developed to meet the unique needs of people with Autism and designed to help reduce anxiety and stress from daily distractions and high levels of sensory stimulation. Through increased staff interaction, PACE helps participants focus on appropriate behaviors and positive skills.
Life enrichment is necessary for people to feel they are a part of their community. The PACE 1 and PACE 2 program locations have shared one van, alternating mornings and afternoons or relying on a route van for drop-off and pick-up, which limited the number of outings for each group and resulted in tricky scheduling. Due to the nature of the program, it is a fast-changing environment. On many occasions, PACE outings are cut short due to illness, challenging behavior, or a person’s sensory needs. Flexibility with a dedicated van allows staff and persons served to quickly move from locations without delay, which can be highly stressful for everyone involved and potentially dangerous.

Many thanks to the CJ Seitz Memorial Foundation for recognizing the need and awarding the funds to purchase a 2017 Dodge Grand Caravan to improve mobility for the PACE program outings! The additional van will allow twenty-seven individuals in PACE the freedom to go on more outings and adapt to changes quickly. The outings offer more opportunities for individuals to use the skills they learn regarding interaction with staff and peers on campus and apply that in the community. Activities include social, cultural, sports, volunteering, health, and educational experiences.
KETCH is grateful for the addition of this van, which will provide relief for the PACE program, increase the ability to quickly change course as needed while in the community, and increase the opportunities that are available to learn, educate, and assist individuals in strengthening their social interactions.
